Puerto Rico to play against Dominican Republic
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, July 18, 2007.-
Puerto Rico will play against the Dominican Republic for the fifth
place of the Women’s Volleyball Tournament of the Pan American
Games.
The Puerto Ricans defeated Mexico 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 despite
playing losing its captain Aury Cruz midway the second set with a
leg injury.
“It is not a big deal and I think I will be ready for tomorrow’s
match against Dominican Republic,” said Cruz during the post game
press conference.
“There are no medals involved but is going to be a tough match due
to the sport rivalry between those two teams. They also play very
aggressive against us,” said Juan Carlos Nunez, the Puerto Rican
coach.
Karina Ocasio was the only Puerto Rican player in double figures
with 16 points, Eva Cruz had 9 and Dariam Acevedo came from the
bench to contribute 8 points. Migdalel Ruiz was the best Mexican
with 15.
